1. The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) #Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) was created in 1976 to assist low-income families who lacked resources to invest in energy efficiency. Borne out of the oil-crisis of the 1970s, WAP has become the nation’s largest whole-house home energy upgrade program. The Program operates in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Native American tribes, and U.S. Territories. Funds are used to improve the #EnergyEfficiency of low-income homes using the most advanced technologies and testing protocols available in the housing industry.

2. The #Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) supports thousands of local businesses, including manufacturers, supply chain vendors, and professional contractors. This program provides a marketplace for innovation and new product development in the energy efficiency industry nationwide. The WAP is a pioneer in deploying technology and facilitating greater industry adoption of more efficient and effective practices and tools. Through these tools, WAP continues to define residential energy upgrade work as a distinct and professional industry and as a desirable and sensible product for consumers. Over 88% of materials used for WAP are #AmericanMade

3. #Weatherization has helped over 7.4 million families to live in cleaner, safer, and more energy efficient homes. This program benefits low-income families, who spend on average of 16.3% of their annual income on home energy costs, compared to 3.5% for non WAP-eligible homes. The WAP saves low-income families an average range of $250-$450 per year in heating, cooling and electric costs, depending on housing type, location, and fuel source. Weatherization protects the most vulnerable households against future price increases and fluctuations. This leaves households with more money for food, medicine, housing costs, and other essentials. The WAP has benefited communities by providing safer and more energy efficient housing stock, and increases local economic activity.

4. Do you want to be weatherized? Nationally, as many as 20–30 million U.S. families are eligible for weatherization services. U.S. Department of Energy urges you to contact your state #weatherization agency to determine if you are eligible for the many benefits of weatherization services. For example, reducing energy costs means families have more money to spend on food, medicine & other essentials. Weatherization work also benefits communities by providing safer & more #EnergyEfficient housing stock, and increases local economic activity.
