Summary:
NYSWDA’s Energy Efficiency Training Center offers a wide variety of training and technical services to weatherization staff and home performance contractors from all over New York State and the nation. Classroom training and laboratory exercises are integrated using the latest technologies and diagnostic equipment to provide energy auditors and field technicians an exceptional learning experience with emphasis on applied mechanical skills.
The 8,000 square foot Energy Efficiency Training Center offers two classrooms with space for up to 58 individuals with a full complement of audio visual equipment and hands on props which further enhance the adult students learning experience. The facility includes a heating laboratory with an inventory of thirteen, oil and gas fired hydronic and forced air systems representing all major types of heating equipment found in the residential market. Also included at the training center is a state-of-the-art 700 square foot scale model house which was constructed using common framing details found in residential construction. The house was developed to provide students with an opportunity to observe all facets of residential pressure diagnostics by incorporating problematic areas as they relate to energy efficiency. Students are exposed to both blower door assisted pressure diagnostics and combustion appliance zone health and safety trainings within the structure.
In our Weatherization Installer Boot Camp Facility, NYSWDA hosts a 4-day intensive, hands on, entry-level weatherization installer training. Two and a half days are devoted to federal and state regulations regarding health and safety, OSHA construction safety and lead safe work practices. The other one and a half days involve hands on dense-pack, air sealing, insulation equipment maintenance, introduction to infrared training and tool and equipment safety using state of the art, full-scale building props. NYSWDA is a Building Performance Institute (BPI) authorized Testing Center that provides on-site advanced trainings for multiple BPI certifications plus field and written testing for certification. Additionally NYSWDA is authorized to train OSHA 10/30 hour Construction Safety Cards and EPA RRP Lead Renovator Certifications. NYSWDA’s trainings are eligible for BPI continuing education units.
