Multi-million dollar grant helps Knoxville homeowners improve older homes, save on utilities
Congrats to Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee (CAC) for their award from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to run the Knoxville Extreme Energy Makeover program. The project is one of two selected from among many competitors to implement the groundbreaking TVA investment in community and residential efficiency, and put money into home upgrades that will save money on utility bills down the road.
Barbara Kelly, Executive Director of Knoxville-Knox County CAC attributes the team’s winning bid to the painfully-won expertise and #Weatherization capacity acquired by the city’s successful implementation of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA). CAC will split the total of $7.12 million project budget with the second awardee. With this funding, CAC’s seasoned Housing and Weatherization team, led by Jason Estes, plans to retrofit over 600 older homes and reduce usage by 25% or more from Summer 2015 through Fall 2017. This new program expands CAC’s existing weatherization programs; CAC can spend up to $8,000 per home. See more program details at TVA’s site. CAC’s partners are the City of Knoxville, Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) and the Alliance to Save Energy. Thanks to WAP EOS PLUS for letting us know about this!
