When Iraq War Veteran, Ryan Riddle, returned to his hometown of East Pharsalia in Chenango County, NY after his tour of duty, he found himself looking for work. Fortunately, Opportunities for Chenango (OFC) – a community action agency whose Weatherization program dates back to 1976 – had received an allocation of ARRA funding for the Weatherization Assistance Program. The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) provides funds to reduce the energy expenditures of low-income households by conducting energy audits and installing energy efficiency and conservation materials, including insulation, weather-stripping, and energy efficient lighting, doors and windows. The funding has enabled OFC to hire and maintain nine employees on three different crews, with plans to grow to five crews in the months ahead. Ryan applied for a job and was hired.
