Recently, a family of three, including a young child, was discovered living in a city park in New Mexico. They had left a local shelter due to safety concerns and had nowhere else to go.
What happened next is a powerful example of the CSBG network in action.
Within hours, the CSBG New Mexico State Office mobilized to connect the family with the Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) McKinney-Vento Program, secure safe temporary housing, and ensure the child was enrolled in school.
Thanks to swift coordination between the state office, Help – New Mexico, and a network of community partners, the family is now on a path toward long-term stability. They’ve been connected with resources designed to support not just their immediate needs, but their future goals as well.
This story reflects the heart of the CSBG mission: meeting families where they are, responding with urgency, and delivering support with dignity and compassion.
A heartfelt thank-you to the New Mexico CSBG State Office and all the partners involved. Their unwavering commitment transformed a moment of crisis into a pathway to hope, and their work continues to change lives across New Mexico.
