DOE to Invest $8 Billion in Weatherization and State Energy Grants
The Department of Energy (DOE) announced on March 12, 2009 an investment of almost $8 billion in state and local weatherization and energy efficiency programs as part of the Recovery Act. Approximately $5 billion will go to the Weatherization Assistance Program and about $3 billion will go to the State Energy Program.
The DOE news release states that the ?Weatherization Assistance Program will allow an average investment of up to $6,500 per home in energy efficiency upgrades and will be available for families making up to 200% of the federal poverty level - or about $44,000 a year for a family of four.
